Investing in whisky: what are the costs?

We get a lot of questions about the (small) costs concerning investing in whisky. Here's a quick summary...

Storage fee
When you wish to put bottles up for sale, they automatically get stored with the World Whisky Storage. Storage fees are calculated and charged quarterly and amount to a percentage of the (insured) purchase price or market value. Maximum charge is 2%.

Whiskies stored with the WWS are insured for 100% of either purchase price or market value (when a market price has been set).

Transaction fee
Only selling whiskies involves fees. For bottles purchased at The Whisky Talker we calculate a transaction fee that varies between 0,5% and 2%. For bottles that are bought elsewhere we calculate a 10% transaction fee.

Shipping
Shipping costs are for the buyer. There are 4 shipping options you can choose from (see table in the left menu) either before or after your purchase. The Whisky Talker takes care of shipment or delivery.
